Ava DuVernay born August 24 72 years old in Long Beach, California. DuVernay discovered her love for art through the aunt Denise. Her aunt was an overnight nursing assistant so that she could have the chance to learn about art literature or theater. DuVernay was exposed to the movie of 1961 West Side Story by her aunt. DuVernay learned by example the power of art as an avenue for action. DuVernay developed a social conscious through her mother. DuVernay, who grew up together with her parents in Compton, spent each summer at Lowndes County Alabama in the house of her father's family. DuVernay's Father recalled witnessing the historical march of the Civil Rights Movement across the Edmund Pettus Bridge. It was in Selma Alabama, a neighboring city. The time spent in Selma, Alabama during the summer, was later the inspiration to direct a movie about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. as well as the Civil Rights Movement. DuVernay graduated from Saint Joseph High School at Lakewood in the state of California in 1990. In 1990, she completed her studies at Saint Joseph High School in Lakewood, California. DuVernay began to develop an interest in journalistic broadcasting while in school. DuVernay was a CBS News intern during the O.J. Simpson trial. DuVernay remembers being given an assignment to watch the home and looking through the trash from one of the juries. After being disappointed in journalistic work by the assignments she was given, DuVernay decided to pursue an interest in public relations. DuVernay got her first job as a publicist at an unassuming production studio straight out of school. The DuVernay Agency is her first PR agency. Apart from PR, the agency also created a variety of lifestyle and promotional networks including the Urban Beauty Collective, Urban Thought Collective, Urban Eye and HelloBeautiful.
